Great French zombie flick!

I thought this was a great movie. I am a fan of Euro horror and of zombie flicks so I am a bit bias. I watched the DVD version in French with subtitles I thought it looked very good and like when they are subtitled instead of crappy English dubbing. I wouldn't say it's the best zombie movie but, the zombies looked pretty good and it had a semi-unique story. I think the fact that it was in French helped with the atmosphere.
If anyone has any comments about it, I'd love to hear!

Yeah I guess it is fairly rare. I was surprised to find it at a used CD store, I think there are some copies on half.com or Ebay for. Well worth it if you find one.

This was definitely a creepy little flick with some great atmosphere! One of the scenes I found particularly eerie was the scene where Lucy (the blind girl) is wandering around looking lost and confused, completely oblivious to the "zombies" closing in on her.

I don't know how helpful this'll be to non-Netflix members, but this movie IS available at Netflix (which is how I got ahold of it). If I ever get the chance to outright buy this one at a decent price, I will!!

Oh I am so glad I tracked this one down. Just when I thought I'd exhausted the zombie genre (although yes, I know, the infected here are not strictly speaking zombies).

Right from the introduction on a spooky deserted train you know you're into something different. I agree: the whole Frenchness really came out in the atmosphere. In the dreamy way that the action takes its time to happen. The looong periods of silence. The actually caring about the victims (including the infected). It was a bit like being trapped in a nightmare. Strange that it actually owes as much to Towering Inferno as it does to Night of the Living Dead (read the sleeve notes!)

I can see how it's not for everybody though, but if you're looking for something different - that plays with the genre a bit - then look no further!

I thought this film was nothing short of spectacular. One of the eeriest, most surreal, and dreamlike horror atmospheres this side of Kubrick's The Shining. It is so much more than a "zombie movie" - it's an art film. If David Lynch ever made a quasi-zombie film with a straightforward narrative, this would be it. Only this is even better than what his would be. It proves you can still take a genre as heavily used as zombies and not just tread water. You care about the characters and they act like real people would in such a situation. It doesn't feel cheap or sleazy - I'd even go so far as to call it beautiful.

I just saw this film and was very impressed. The quietly eerie and ominous atmosphere was extremely well rendered. Moreover, the fact that the lethal rot-faced infected people were struggling to retain their humanity while succumbing to the disease made them that much more scary and disturbing.

Glad to see you like it, as someone one here gave it 5/10, and I'm about to watch it. Just from the first glimpse I've had of the start of it, I think I'm going to like it. All I saw was where the guys with masks are walking toward the camera, holding what looks like crop-spraying equipment with that cool atmospheric music in the background.

I love the name, The Grapes of Death!

I'll report back with my opinion on it but first impression is good.

I had to kill Bob Morton because he made a mistake. Now it's time to erase that mistake

This thread convinced me to buy the blu ray, which is expensive. I have never even heard of it before even though I love 70's horror movies. I guess it's not cult enough to have a bunch of 18 year olds here trying to be first to say it sucks, it's just a bunch of honest opinions saying it's good.
