Murky and unfocused

Didn't know what to expect from this period piece but the poor quality DVD transfer made it difficult to watch. It looked like it was made from a worn out VHS copy (surprise, no company name on the disc) and Rutger and Sylvia's badly dubbed dialog was distracting. And poor David Rappaport's stature is the source of ridicule by most of the characters in the film. While it was essential to the story (it validates why he befriended Hauer so strongly) is still comes off as cruel.

Hard to figure out why Hauer does what he does. The townspeople regard him with mild curiosity or indifference despite his sudden presence and influence in their little hamlet. In the end it's obvious the story wasn't clearly fleshed out.

David Rappaport is the best thing about this movie :).

The entire film is rather strange and the casting of Sylvia Krystel in a straight role was unusual at the time.

Its that man again!!
