Anyone own a copy?

I've always wanted to see this film, and unfortunately, it is next to impossible trying to find it on Ebay mainly because of its title. I have tried to modify my searches "Movie Movie Donen", "Movie Movie 1978", "Movie Movie Stanley", but none have brought forth a VHS tape result. So I put forth the question, does anybody here happen to own this film on VHS? If so, could you make a copy of it for me? I look forward to some responses!

Try "movie movie vhs" in quotes, which will limit the search to only what exactly matches those words. Still, very difficult to find.

I believe the only VHS release here in the states is the late 70s Magnetic Video release. It's still pretty easy to find.

Just wanted to let you all know that there is a DVD that just was released in Germany (supercheap for 4.99€) with englisch track or german track. The picture is not the greatest...but it ain't the worst either...and better than the superold VHS Magnetic version. So for those who can play Region 2 PAL... there is now a way to own this film.

The VHS release of this great film was a joke. One of the most clever and endearing gags in the movie was that the whole first segment (the story about the boxer) was shot in black & white in order to emulate the gritty old Warner Brothers look from the 1930s. Then, in the second half of the film (for the musical parody), the movie shifts to glorious color to emulate the grand old MGM musicals of the 1940s. On the VHS version, they actually colorized the first half of the movie, completely obliterating the point!!

As far as looking for it on Ebay, try narrowing your search by using the phrase 'George C. Scott' in the description search.

I don't suppose you'd be willing to make a copy for a reasonable price or trade? i remember seeing it on TV with college friends, some Barry Bostwick line about a mink had us ALL on the floor . .

reply

Unfortunately I don't have the VHS on me. It's actually back east at my parents' place. Also, I've never made VHS Copies before.

tx for listening, anyway. there is a copy on eBay today - 4 Apr 08 - for only $9.99. would be nice to get some interest sparked and see it on DVD, but alas .. . .

finally got it on VHS. the old copy-protection is evident, though, as the picture colours flip from red to green continuously. i'm copying it to DVD, if anyone wants one, with the caveat of the flickering colours. Harry Hamlin is just a baby in this one! i'm enjoying every second, even with the crazy picture.

Movie Movie

never have been able to find it. you indicate in your post that you now have a VHS copy. are you willing/able to make a copy of that copy? would be EXTREMELY grateful. tx in advance.

I have a wonderful 35mm print. Even the eastman color 2nd half still has most of it's color

I taped it off Encore a long time ago. Luckily, it was in good condition, so I was able to transfer it to DVD. I'd forgotten how many wonderfully funny lines are in it. It's not a classic, but it is an enjoyable parody. Unfortuneately the print they ran on Encore has the 'colorized' version of the 1st half of the movie. Actually, it probably was not 'colorized'. I suspect, as is the case with most black and white films made now, the director was forced to film it in color and was able to take the color out when the print was made. That way the studios could have a more 'marketable' color print when the time came to sell the TV rights. So, if you want to recreate the real experience, just shut off the color in your TV. Luckily, the funny 'coming attraction' is still in black and white.

I just sold a Magnetic Video copy on Amazon for $33. There are copies out there on Amazon.

I HAVE the movie, but I WANT the original with the first segment in glorious black and white and the second in color. I know, I can always turn off the color on my TV, but it's just not the same as when I saw it in the theatre. Oh, and I WANT the original 1:85:1 format.

I have a link to it online in its original form. First movie b&w and second in color if you're interested.

Hello-- I'm interested, I can't find it anywhere. Thanks, Brett

Wow! A year and a half and someone finally responds! Well, better late then never, I suppose. I won't post the exact links here on the forum. Because some assh-le will probably report them and have them deleted.

There are 2 links, one on thevideo.me and sharesix.com, the files are both labeled:

Please respond so I know you've been able to access them.

Now on Blu-ray, looks pretty good, but strangely the titles and intro with George Burns are in the supplement section, and the film begins immediately with the B/W fight short.
