Giorgio Moroder ROCKS

I have been entertained thoroughly reading all the different takes people have on this movie and until now with M.E. airing on TCM I have read things about this film I never knew.

One thing I do know and cannot be argued is the brilliant soundtrack by the Godfather of Techno & House music uber producer Giorgio Moroder, the man responsible for the music of Donna Summer and also big soundtrack hits for Blondie "Call Me" ,from American Gigolo , Berlin "Take My Breath Away" from Top Gun & also Irene Cara for "Fame" & "FlashDance" . Also his work with David Bowie on "cat People" is not to be overlooked either.

"The Chase" remains one of my fave disco electro tracks of all time and the entire soundtrack is so worth checking out..

I totally agree, Many dj's today have been influenced by Giorgio Moroder, and "The Chase" is a great track.

That's right! The that guy did things 30 years ago what they do now.But he did it so much better!

I thought his masterpiece in the movie were the scenes in the opening shot and the ones where Billy finally snapped with the synthesizer going and the cries of Muslim prayers in the background

I absolutely LOVE the soundtrack to this movie. I love the chase music but I really like the main theme, which is particularly powerful as it builds when he escapes at the end. Giorgio Moroder is fantastic, and I also love the Cat People soundtrack as well as the music to Scarface.

I watched the movie again this week after several years of not having viewed it. The music was the one part of the film that I thought had not held up well. It was very dated.

reply

Powerful music no doubt, and exceptional....

but how can you lsten to it and not be depressed, this film rivals even Nineteen eighty-four and The Wall in the halls of doom?!?!?

reply

His music for SCARFACE kicks ass too.

I love this score!

The main theme and love theme are especially beautiful!

This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.

reply

Yeah, great music!
I have the soundtrack on CD but its a little different from the music in the movie. Actually I think the movie version of The Chase is better.
Is there another issue with the original soundtrack?

Is there another issue with the original soundtrack?

If you find out, let me know! I have the cd as well and I definitely noticed a difference in the main theme, which I love, but I do prefer the music in the movie.

Moroder is not the Godfarther of Techno or House, he was the King of Disco :)

Disco later on heavily influenced House, coupled with soul, funk and gospel. Techno was a different sound that was inspired by euro-synth sounds coming from Germany and the UK and it grew mostly around Detroit with the likes of Juan Atkins and the lot. The initial techno sounds were dry and industrial but eventually gained lots of soul elements as the likes of Kenny Larkin and Robert Hood came in.

He does indeed.

"The Chase" was used in a March 2010 episode of The Simpsons ("Stealing first Base" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1607507/soundtrack). The tune was used only briefly, but to great effect, during a skateboarding sequence. It certainly got my attention. I thought it had an early '80s New Wave sound to it, and being a fan of early '80s nostalgia, I did a little research and discovered that it was from Midnight Express. (I was off just a little in the timeline...after listening to the whole 8-minute track, I realize that it does have more of a late-1970s disco sound to it.) Even though I hadn't actually heard that particular tune before, it was evocative of that era and reminded me of the music and pop culture of the time. (Despite being just a kid back then, it really took me back!)

I remember the first time I saw this picture in the theater and thinking "The Chase", great piece that it is, sounded much like a song by a local group here. There was an album, released in 1977, by a group called "Cain." The album was called "Stinger" and on that album there is a song called "Thanks A Lot Houston" about an out of control space capsule which is getting no help from "ground control." Anyway, "The Chase" sounds eerily like "Thanks A Lot Houston" and I always wondered if wasn't "Borrowed" from it.

Let us not forget that the radio program "Coast 2 Coast AM" - a popular psuedo-science and paranormal radio station uses 'the Chase' nightly. Awesome and enlightening radio program if you haven't been initiated. "From the high desert" baby.

Steal this sig.
