You must be out of your ever loving mind.

I hope it's not that bad because it's on in 15 minutes and I've never seen it before. But if Anthony Hopkins is in it how bad could it be?

reply

i really enjoyed this movie, it was very intense and has GREAT performances from all actors. especially Anthony!

What are you saying? This is a great movie - creepy, chilling, atmospheric. Anyway, I'd watch Anthony Hopkins in a party political broadcast - especailly when he was in his heyday (I only watched All Creatures Great and Small 'cos he was in it).

"That, - Captain Bligh, - that is the thing; - I am in hell, sir - I am in hell."

This movie was really bad.

I wouldn't say one of the worst I've ever seen, but still really, really bad.

1. The opening scenes, especially the scene where Burgess Meredith and David Ogden Stiers are watching Anthony Hopkins perform, having come into his own as a performer, and then talking to him after the performance are painful to watch. The characters are laughing at jokes that aren't in the slightest funny, and their laughter seems forced and joyless.

2. We are asked to believe Anthony Hopkins' character grew up in small hamlet in backwoods America, but he doesn't sound even remotely American. There are a lot of Brit actors nowadays who do fantastic American accents. Hopkins is not and was not one of them.

3. Burgess Meredith's performance gives us a travesty of a caricature of a showbiz agent, flinging glass cigar cases left and right to break wherever they land. Are we seriously to believe that such a man would drive himself the several hours all the way from NYC up to the Catskills, rather than be chauffeured? Makes an easier job for the writer, sure, but next to unbelievable for the audience.

4. Ann-Margaret was totally unconvincing as the character she portrayed. Her delivery of the lines was awful. I almost couldn't believe that this film was from later in her career.

5. Was anybody surprised by what happened during the fishing scene? At that point, it was clear what would happen during the rest of the film. Try just a little imagination, don't be so obvious!

I can't believe this film was nominated for BAFTA and Golden Globe awards.
Apart from some seeing the great Anthony Hopkins pulling off some fancy prestidigitation and card tricks, watching this disaster of a film was a huge disappointment.

This person is obviously a troll. He claims a movie is one of the worst, yet doesn't give a reason to back up his claim.
