in the infancy of cable television, this flic was shown over and over on some free movie channel. And I watched it over and over. I had no preconceptions of the story and wouldn't have even known the word anime in 81. But I loved the visuals and the mood. About the topless scene? one comment said it wasn't sexy and seemed pointless. wow, Sexy? you were expecting sexy? I thought that scene was about the depths of her dispair. But maybe you have to be a woman who has stared at herself unclothed in a mirror to "get" that.

Count me in, I loved it too, and I think the reason that most people didn't like this movie is because they're comparing it to the anime version. well, stop doing that, this is a movie and that's a series.. clowns :|

I only saw it once or twice but I was like 9 or 10 and I thought it rocked!!!

I like this movie. The storytelling is great considering the anime has 10 books or something.

My only concern is that they didn't show Oscar's glorious death
