Please give me plot details of this film. I've looked for it everywhere but can't find it and my friend told me it's very good.

This is an old post so I'm just replying for the heck of it. The story is about tribes of Gypsies in 20th century New York. Jarko Stepanovich (Sterling Hayden) is the leader of one tribe and calls himself King of the Gypsies, which other tribes resent.
The story focuses on Dave (Eric Roberts), the grandson of Stepanovich and his chosen heir. Dave struggles to find his identity in the rapidly changing modern world, which makes it harder for Gypsies to follow their old ways of life.
It's also about Dave's conflict with his abusive father, played by Judd Hirsch.
It was suggested by the non-fiction book of the same title by journalist Peter Maas, who wrote SERPICO and THE VALACHI PAPERS. The book is well worth reading and should be easy to find on ebay or half.com for a reasonable price.
And now the movie is available on DVD! Finally!

~ I recently saw this movie and thought it was great and alittle sad too. All very lovely done, and the performances was wonderful.
