This is the film that taught me to love Shakespeare...

As a high school student i didnt much care for shakespeare. For one thing, we read it aloud in class, a horrible way to learn it. For another, the plays chosen, Julius Caesar and MacBeth didnt really engage me much (i have since learned to like MacBeth....still dont much care for Caesar),,,then I lucked upon this production when it aired on PBS....Jacobi moved me to tears at the abdication and I have been hooked ever since. At first i thought maybe it was either Jacobi's ta;lents, or I just liked Richard's story, so I watched Jacobi's Hamlet when it aired and knew it wasnt....It was Shakespeare, perfectly delivered by one of the great actors of our time....I went on to love and appreciate all sorts of performances of Shakespeare...but this was the one that opened the door and i will always be grateful to Sir Derek....

It is not our abilities that make us who we are...it is our choices
