This should be released as an individual DVD.

It is criminal that these BBC Shakespeare plays are available only as boxed sets, and not individually. This one is one of the best in the series, and by far the best "Richard the Second" available on DVD. It's horrendous that in order to own it we have to pay more than one hundred dollars.

Please, Ambrose Video, release these plays as individual titles so that we can get the ones we want at an affordable price.

You can get this as an individual item from Ambrose Video---but at a price of $99.95!

That's highway robbery, pure and simple. No single DVD has ever cost that much, or should cost that much. I have never seen any single DVD selling at that kind of price, offline or on, except at Ambrose. They should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves at charging those kinds of prices.

Though amazon, etc., doesn't sell the BBC Shakepeare series individually, all the titles are available individually directly from Ambrose. The BBC versions of the history plays are uneven in quality (as of course are the plays themselves). RIII is disappointing, for instance. The strongest are Richard II and Henry IV pts. 1 and 2. Derek Jacobi's RII is excellent as would be expected from him, though he's an odd casting choice for the role and personally I don't agree with all of his acting choices. His Richard is a bit more unstable, a bit less the bad king who should have been a poet, than I'd prefer. But it's Jon Finch's performance, sustained through these three plays, that is their consistent strength. Anthony Quaile is also a wonderful Falstaff in the two Henry IV plays. These three do cost over a hundred dollars individually, but being on a budget I bought them piecemeal as I could. They're the only three of the history series I'd want to watch repeatedly and show friends. Of the comedies, Measure for Measure is superb, by the way.
