Japanese VHS Copy

I have a copy of this movie on VHS imported from Japan. The audio is in english, but it has Japanese subtitles. Full screen. It came in a plastic gate-fold box with all kinds a Japanese writing on it. I got it in 1988 from a rock magazine like Hit Parade. It came thru Milwauke Or. An import company called Simmons imports. Has nothing to do with Gene Simmons. This was before they put the kibosh on all bootlegs, I used to get Japanese cds, I have the Holland picture discs of all the albums from "Kiss - Smashes..." All numbered and very rare.

It's a fun film to watch now and again, the acting is lousy, the stunt doubles are totally noticable and they are short and fat and they aren't even close to band members figures. The ad-libs are great though, Ace hams it up thru-out most of it, he was very funny and did a lot of his own stunts. But this is what happens when you're on top of the world and no one tells you "No". It's only years later you can look back and say "What were we thinking?"

Still waiting for the DVD release of it, widescreen or letter-boxed, lots of x-tras will be needed, making ofs, behind the scenes, commentaries by Gene & Paul, maybe even Ace if he can do it without suing anybody. Doubtful.

And pay attention to how Gene picks on Ace in the dialoge. He's constantly ripping him in this movie, it was their sense of humor that kept the band alive at this point and they were close to breaking up, but they were friends and still could take a good jabbing at that point. That attitude would change in a year, by the Dynaty tour in 1979, Peter was so messed up he couldn't hardly walk to the stage area by himself, much less play the drums.

So get this movie if you can find it, it goes up on the shelf with A Hard Days Night, Purple Rain, Pink Floyd - The Wall, One-Trick Pony, King Creole or Jailhouse Rock. And there you have it, Rocker Bob :)
If it bleeds, we can kill it!
