Hooper dies at the beginning?

The film opens with a nameless/faceless deep sea diver exploring the sunken ruins of the Orca boat, only to be attacked and eaten by a new shark. We never learn the diver’s identity, but he screams the exact same iconic muffled scream of Hooper’s. Does this imply that Hooper was in fact the diver who dies in the intro? Or were the filmmakers just too lazy and thought nobody would notice the incredibly recognizable Hooper yelp?

Forgive me, been a while since I've seen this movie, but I believe someone mentions that Hooper is out at sea on some boat or submarine for an extended research project

reply

Hooper is on the Aurora. This is the research ship he talks about in the first film.

The reality of it is that Dreyfus was doing Close Encounters at the time of filming or likely would have been brought back.

reply

Exactly, the floating asylum.

Pay attention to the movie, it’s spelled out for you

Then why would they recycle his iconic scream? I guess they thought nobody would notice and instantly recogizable sound effect? And is there a reason why you’re an asshole on every response you type? Guess you’re pretty miserable.

He's probably tired of people who watch movies while staring at their phone...

As for "Hooper's iconic scream": Production costs.

reply

Don't worry. Hooper later gets eaten by piranha instead.

Google "Wilhelm scream".

reply

Lookup the Wilhelm Scream if you need to learn about sounds being reused.

reply

it is pretty confusing because of the hooper scream, but no, it's some random diver and not hooper. they also use the same scream when one of the teenage girls gets attacked towards the film's climax.
