A man's son...the same blood runs thru the veins of father & son. I'm sure the production took that into consideration when they plotted the scene. He sees his father being humiliated. Anybody else would turn away, perhaps even a wife, it's different blood, she'll be a peacemaker. Brody, his blood is boiling because of the crisis, he's never forgotten "Jaws"---his son is drawn to him in his time of indifference/of abandonment by the community, his time of need has arrived. The boy doesn't really understand what is physiologically driving him in this sequence, but, he sides his father nonetheless, because of the blood. Blood rules, Corky.
