Good read, though I disagree that Amity being like a ghost town would have worked. The way I look at it, the town was just getting over the events of the summer of '74. Things were looking up and the island was finally getting back to normal.

Otherwise, what conflict would there be? Another shark terrorizing a town with no tourists? As the most famous tagline ever declared: Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...

To me, that was for the moviegoing public and the fictional vacationers considering Amity Island.

It seems like the studio thought it sounded like too much of a bummer. You needed to have some levity, just before the buffet opened.

I think we may have another shark problem.

Cool, thanks.

I read that all Hancock footage has been lost or destroyed. This was back in the days before DVD extras. I hope it's not true.

The scene where the shark passes under the boats at the dock and its fin breaking the surface was from JH.

I've always loved that shot.

Yeah, that is a fantastic shot. I like how the shark just “appears”. It’s very spooky and sets a perfect tone.
