Just watched it again tonight, still holds up after all these years

I saw this film on its release and back then I thought it was really good. I'm surprised how effective it still is, the performances, storyline, dialogue, sets, special effects, sounds, and pacing are all top-notch. The film comes together in a way that you don't see anymore. Outstanding movie.

I think the suspense building up is what makes this film so effective. And like you mentioned, this film has aged well over it's 35 plus years. Minus the flares, this story is pretty much a timeless story which looks at urban society as cold and isolated.

The only films in this genre that have the same mood in recent times are Wolf Creek(in terms of slow building suspense and downbeat atmosphere), but too many films tend to miss the mark and lack tension and pace.

Pace and building tension are the vital ingredients to make a decent horror thriller.

Timeless cult classic!!! I adore this film

I still want another remake even if its not quite as good overall. Invasion of the body snatchers if pretty much my favorite genre of science fiction/horror.

The 2007 attempt with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig was a disappointment I must admit.

I understand you. Anyway, we have many similar films. I can give you some recommendations if you want

I was feeling sentimental about Nimoy, so watched it again last night on Netflix. I agree that it still holds up. Very creepy atmosphere overall. My favorite scene remains the encounter with the dog-man who obviously was the result of a pod transformation that went slightly wrong.

This has always been one of my favorites. Kaufman's subliminal, creep directing. Interesting and moody cinematography. Great dialogue, interesting characters(Goldbloom, Nimoy and Sutherland are great).

The only disappointment even after all these years is the weak title sequence. Obviously lacking a budget(i get that). Still...i felt they should have gone for something simpler and less ambitious instead of going for it and coming up with the very bad special effects sequence they put on screen. It was Logans Run bad, and i don't usually comment on special effects.

Great film though.
8.5/10

Yep the title sequence reminded me of Space 1999, its effects were that poor and TV-like.

OTOH the effects after that are great. Even just the pod things with the brightly coloured petals are very good.

It's a masterpiece from the greatest decade in film, but it's never mentioned along more celebrated works, like Taxi Driver, Cuckoo's Nest, Godfather, Jaws, Last Picture Show etc.

This movie is always left out.

Yup
A stone cold 70s classic!
I watch it every October

It's coming true now. Here's what happens when a vaccinated person sees someone who hasn't gotten vaccinated yet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEStsLJZhzo

You're not far off. It also reminds me of the movie "The Stuff"
