Question about the rules for transforming (SPOILERS!)

How the hell does Elizabeth change from human to alien without benefit of a big-honkin' plant that looks like her??

She falls asleep for 7 seconds and when her eyes pop open again, she's changed!

But she still has the same body! It's not a "plant clone" -- it's her!

Everyone else required a "plant clone" in order to change.

Did I miss something? And if not, was this discrepancy ever explained in the actual movie??

I'm going out on a limb here, but the last scene in Sutherland's house, there was pod versions of everyone forming in the back yard. He killed the one of him with a shovel (maybe it was a hoe... not exactly sure.) I think he had to run before destroying any of the others. Perhaps the Elizabeth clone came back in to 'range' and finished the job?

I think you're confused. Elizabeth's original body falls apart in Matthew's hands and then, moments later, we see a new version of Elizabeth rise up from behind a nearby bush.

This plant version of Elizabeth was almost fully developed by the time Matthew returned from inspecting the boat.
