From Spore to Flower

The film begins with spores making their way to earth and embed themselves in earth's plant life. Eventually a strange flower develops. Was the spore adopting earth's ecology or is the alien spore a flower-like entity? If it had landed on a planet with atmosphere and some life forms, but no plant life, would it still eventually develop into a flower-like entity?

"Was the spore adopting earth's ecology or is the alien spore a flower-like entity?"

Probably adapting to Earth's ecology. Looking like an exotic flower on Earth would not arouse that much curiosity or suspicion. If the spores landed on a planet with no plants, and took on the likeness of flowers, they would look so conspicuous and out of place that any intelligent lifeforms would say, "Isn't it strange how people seem to have lost their emotions since those weird thingamajigs appeared?" and quickly put two and two together.

On the other hand, if the spores land on a planet where the lifeforms aren't intelligent, it might not matter so much. Though it would still seem a bit pointless to resemble something that isn't really native to that planet's environment.

Seems logical. I never read the Jack Finney novel, so I don't know if he touches on this.

In the novel the pods had previously taken over civilizations on Mars and the Moon. They can disguise themselves as anything, including a rusty tin can.

The writer John Varley wrote an in-depth essay/review of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), with comparisons to the novel, here:

Thanks for link, I will check it out.

Talk about dated since we now know there is no life on Mars or the Moon. They should have known about the moon in 1956 since telescopes were pretty good then and we went there only 13 years later oh well.

There is a series of books called "the science of".

THE SCIENCE OF....

STAR TREK,
STAR WARS
SUPER HEROES
SUPERMAN (he is so famous he gets his own book as opposed to superheroes collectively)

there might be a few others but there are the ones I know about.

Well I wish there was a 'science of body snatchers". Or a prequel novel that delve more into how the pods evolved and where they originally came from.
