Finger?

If this is the same movie I'm thinking of, the last time I saw it was probably around 1978 or 79 when I was 8 or 9 years old. I seem to remember something about some boys picking on her and they had a mockup of a bloody, chopped off finger in a tin, and when she opened it, she threw it down and ran away. Then later, the boy who picked on her the first time gave her another one, but instead of a bloody finger, it contained a flower.

Did that happen in this movie or is my memory (from 30-31 years ago) messing with me. I seem to recall liking this movie a lot (if it's the movie I'm thinking of) and I also seem to recall that she fell off of the horse and injured her arm or something like that, but gutted it out and finished the race anyway.
