Ridiculous Extravagance


From the very beginning, the cost of silly things like a $400 vase (you could substitute a 99 cent store vase) showed how ridiculously these material objects were, playing a far too important role in the lives of these people. As if the arrangement of these "things" actually meant anything in the real grand scheme of things.

The Mother could create these interiors, perfect, expensive and exact. Yet they were meaningless, which is why the mother was, in the end, quite meaningless. Sad, pathetic even, but frankly meaningless.
