What would happen to Jennifer?

Her final fate remains undisclosed, and I feel the climax is somewhat lessened by the fact that it is so short. We just barely get Jennifer's realization of what has happened to her, and then it cuts away. I would have liked to have seen more of the aftermath of the attack on Jennifer. How would she deal with her disfiguration, and how would the other girls treat her?

Can you please tell me where I can get a copy of the 1978 version of The Initiation of Sarah (1978)?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/6300279928/ref=dp_olp_1 - best I could do. I'm not aware of it being on DVD.

For some reason I got the impression she died from what Sarah did to her. What really did Sarah do to her? As a child I thought Jennifer looked severely burned by the way she darkened and her skin seemed to be scorched.

I thought the ending was too short and too edited almost, given the buildup.
I thought Sarah disfigured her, made her literally old (hence the wrinkles and awful teeth).
But no aftermath with her? No reaction from others? I had been hoping to see that with Jennifer.

I always had the feeling this movie was cut to pieces. Like there were more scenes, deleted, and forever lost to time. It was back in the days way before DVD's and no one thought to save anything that got cut. But when you watch this movie, you just get that feeling. Especially the stuff with Sarah's real mother. That part of the story felt cut. And I agree, we needed a bit more with Jennifer's end.

I saw your post about it being cut on my thread about whether Mrs. Hunter was Sarah's birth mother or not, and I agree 100%.
This film does indeed feel cut in a major way! I'm actually surprised they showed it in such a cut manner, especially the ending.
I also didn't like how Sarah decides to commit suicide while killing Mrs. Hunter.
That seemed like a cop out, she had all those powers and had finally gotten herself and her friends out of their shells...and does that?!

She didn't end up in fire actually. She is shown hanging onto a wall as a supernaturally sent wind blows, and then we see her face become old and wrinkled, and her teeth dark and ugly. She screams as she feels what's happened to her face.
I thought the ending was too abrupt, and I would have loved to see the reactions of her drones to her face.
Plus, Sarah committing suicide seemed kind of silly.

Jennifer lost her youth and beauty, the things that made her popular. Sarah stays in the fire with Mrs Hunter to make sure she dies and does not hurt anyone further. It's not a suicide as much as sacrifycing herself to prevent further deaths.

But couldn't Sarah have killed Mrs. Hunter easily enough without dying herself?
I got the impression that she did commit suicide, she felt she'd been betrayed by everyone in her life and had no future.
I was angry at how she just believed that Paul Yates had betrayed her. She talks to him afterwards, but I think she didn't really believe him. She seemed to turn to hate awfully quickly in terms of siding with Mrs. Hunter, and that didn't seem like the Sarah we'd seen.

I expected to see a final scene where Jennifer is locked away in an asylum, driven mad now that her great beauty has turned to great ugliness. I tend to think the network wanted the show to end up on a more upbeat note, which is why no such scene was shown.

To quote a line in the film:

One day these poor stupid girls who laugh at your cruelty are going to see how ugly you really are. And they'll hate you. And they'll turn on you. And then you won't have any friends left at all!

LOOK AT MISS AMERICA! COME ON, HONEY!

I got the impression Jennifer was made to live to suffer and endure what she had put others through for so long. Karma was cruel and the devil was at the door ready to be paid, in other words. Sarah was better off dying in a way because she didn't want the power that she had. It seemed like her power was more easily used or triggered for bad than good. I thought the way she behaved towards Paul was more of a defense than a genuine show of emotion. I believe Sarah still loved Patti deeply and had come to love Paul because of the goodness inside of him. She knew she had a role to play, however, and may have deep down figured it would not be a happy destiny. That's why she turned on Paul, to make the break easier because she knew what was inevitably to come.

Jennifer got what she deserved. Look at Miss America - come on, honey! Mrs. Hunter had an initiation ceremony in the maze many years before where she slaughtered a girl. Sarah saw she was trying to do the same thing to her friend Mouse. That's why Sarah set the maze on fire - she didn't want Mrs. Hunter to ever do it again. Sarah acted brashly and wound up dying herself.

reply

Sarah didn't act brashly, really. She just had had enough with Mrs. Hunter's evil and betrayal.

She perceived others as having deceived her too, so she'd had enough & did not CARE if she died whilst stopping Mrs. Hunter.
