WAS LEXIE'S BLINDNESS PERMANENT?

In the movie, it was stated that the condition of Lexie's sight could get "better or worse", but, should it improve, would not improve in time for the Nationals or whatever it was she was competing for. So, either way, was Lexie's blindness permanent or temporary that she would regain her sight with the proper care?

It was permanent. I think you misunderstood the doctor's statement. He wasn't speaking of her getting better in time for nationals. What he actually said was "usually with this kind of thing it either gets better or worse in the first few days of injury and after that, what you have is what you have." They were already at that point, several days later. He outlined that she originally could only see pitch black but then improved to see colors and shapes. THAT is what settled in permanently after those few days of improvement. His "I'm sorry, I understand she was very promising" comment was pretty much "She's permanently blinded and can never achieve the success she was training for."

cna never achieve the success?
what was meant by that?

That's what her coach and doctor believed--that she could no longer train Lexie to be a champion figure skater because of her blindness which is why she walked out of her life. What was not clear about that statement? It was an important scene because it showed how people, even doctors, immediately dismiss someone's future potential because of a disability.

From the way they showed scenes through her eyes, she could see a little more than shadows close up. Looks like they would have tried glasses on her to see if she could see a little more with help.

Except if Lexie went out on the ice wearing Annie Sullivan glasses for her blindness, the judges would have deducted severely from her artistic mark. Blind glasses are not artistic.

She was born on the wrong era. Nowadays, she can get laser surgery.

What everyone needs to remember is that her injury was a brain injury, not an eye injury. Glasses and corrective surgery would not help her sight as it was damage to her brain that caused the blindness. Hence the brain scans showing the blood clot. Taking a layer off your cornea is not going to fix damage deep in the brain.

the md stated the clot was dissolving & her eyesight improving. when she came out of the coma, she was in total darkness but then she started seeing shadows and light. i don't think the injury was permanent. she probably got most of her sight back. she probably had to rely on corrective lenses for the rest of her life.

No...just her lack of acting talent!!!!

I think the movie implied that her blindness would be permanent, but her boyfriend was going to stay with her no matter what. Why not? She was gorgeous.
