I have this soundtrack...on vinyl even!

Years ago I fell in love with this movie after I became addicted to watching figure skating on TV. I got so caught up in the romance and the story, that I think I must have watched a hundred times! Watching it now, it really is a guilty pleasure movie - so-bad-it's-good type thing. I even have a 70's photobook and the novelization (which is better than the film I think).

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I was hunting through my parents' record collection a few months ago and found this soundtrack! I wasn't surprised they had it since most of their records ranged on the the Lettermen and Barbra Streistand spectrum of music. Anyway, a lot of great songs on it...though not the groovy disco number Lexie skates to at Sectionals. That's ok, because that's on the "Saturday Night Fever" sdtk. I can't stop playing this album. It just brings back such great memories!

Ok, I'm a nerd, I know, but isn't it great to nerd out every once in awhile?

I can definitely relate. This is one my guilty pleasures too. I still find it to be very touching.

I remember taking piano lessons when this movie came out. Me and many of my fellow students learned to play the theme song "Looking Through the Eyes of Love". It's such a beautiful song - it really made the movie for me. I was pleasantly surprised last year when I hear this song played at a wedding ceremony. It was awesome!

I bought the album when it came out years ago and still have it and listen to it once in awhile.

Since this is my favorite song of all time (I'm 47), I was very motivated to find a way to play it on guitar. It wasn't possible in standard tuning, but I found an alternate tuning which worked, and came up with a beautiful guitar arrangement. Recently I came up with an "intro to the intro" -- I don't have that part tabbed yet, but five years ago I tabbed everything else and posted it on my Web site. If any guitarists are reading this, here's the URL:

Enjoy! (and let me know if you want the intro-intro, or if I should record an MP3 of it.) :-)

I have the soundtrack on vinyl too! Does this show our ages? Hmmmmm my 12 year old son didnt even know what a record was! And very telling, we were watching War Games the other night, there's a scene where Matt Broderick makes a phone call from a phone box. What's he doing mum said son. Making a call I said. But how he asked. Well I laughed and said he's dialling a number, he'd never ever seen a dial phone!!
But I digress from Ice Castles! I must admit I love this film and at one stage had the novel too!
Friends of mine in MN were extras in the final arena scenes, they had a button that said "I was an extra in Ice Castles" Ive watched it so many times and havent managed to spot them yet, despite their descriptions of where they were sitting etc.
As a teen I was terribly caught up in the romance of being an ice skater, one can see now the complete deidcation that is needed, still always very exciting to watch and I still do now Im a 40something hehehehehehe.
But still have all my old records and many soundtracks for films. And yes, sometimes still play them!!

PS, The groovy discoey number that Lexie skates to at the Sectionals is called A Fifth of Beethoven, a very discoey remake of Beethoven's Fifth!!

i was 8 when this movie came out & i can remember reading the novelization as a kid too. and i do remember it being better than the movie. although the movie is, admittedly, a giant hunk of cheese, i absolutely have to watch it every time it comes on. it gets me every time.

Understatement of the year: "I was wrong" - John Locke

rah...bah...bah - The Terror

While this thread is years old, I just had to chime in. I still have my vinyl copy and I upgraded to CD when it was released that way as well. Love the Melissa Manchester stuff but my favorite music on it has always been the Alan Parsons stuff.

The Bluebird of Happiness long absent from his life, Ned is visited by the Chicken of Depression.

I'm late to this thread too. See my post below.

Haha I too also have this album on vinyl and got it around the time the movie came out. I loved all the music from it. Have not listened to it in years and I do need to upgrade to CD.
