I lost sympathy for Jennifer when...

She killed Matthew. He clearly has a learning disability, was coerced by the others and is not fully responsible for his actions. I was very surprised the film makers considered it acceptable for Jennifer to kill him.

Look, there's a reason why the notion of just terminating retards was brought up, because damn liberals/hippies will use mental retardation as means to justify illegal actions, and when you're talking about rape one of the few universal wrongs, I say he got what he deserved.

She had sex with him first. Hell.. take him to heaven before sending him to hell, right?!

besides... just try and convince me that some friggin retard that raped my sister didn't deserve to hang and you'll be on the branch with him.

reply

True true

No excuse for rape

They all derserved to die there's no excuse he knew what they were doing was wrong but he wanted to prove himself to the other guys.

reply

i lost respect when she went skinny dipping within 2 minutes of being there

and flirted with the retard

reply

I thought that was messed up too.

reply

First off..what the hell is wrong with skinny dipping? She was alone and not showing off to anyone. Second....she wasn't flirting with Michael. She was..I don;t know...BEING NICE! What did you want her to do? Act like a total bitch?

I'm intolerant to intolerance.

reply

I can't believe anyone would think skinny dipping in a secluded area is a sign of lost respect.

reply

Yeah she totally deserved to be raped for skinny dipping and flirting. Damn tease.

LMFAO!!

reply

Exactly what I thought. And how unrealistic is that by the way? A raped woman seducing the rapist?! No way...

reply

Yes, but Matthew knew the difference between right and wrong. He knew it was wrong.

If he had no conception of right or wrong maybe you have a point, but Matthew knew.

Yep, he had it coming. I can't even remember how she kills him, does she hang him?

reply

To the first poster...if you believe that Matthew is not responsible bc of his learning disabilities and shouldnt have been killed for what he did then you must also take into account that Jennifer had just been through EXTREME trauma and had a psychotic breakdown leading to her executing revenge on her attackers...she was not of sound mind and able to reason that may not have known he was doing something wrong. So, if you have compassion for what happened to matthew bc of his disability, it would seem the same would be applied to Jennifer.

I, however, dont believe that he didnt know it was wrong and I think he deserved to be punished.

reply

I see you are a moron.

There is a difference between being UNABLE to comprehend something because you PHYSICALLY do not have the mental abilities to. And being ABLE to, conciously choosing to ignore what is "right" or legal and then acting on those impulses while within a correct frame of mind.

This wasn't a "find them and kill them right after the rape". She composed herself weeks later, then went about conciously killing these men.

She knew what she was doing, she just chose to ignore the consequences.

Compared to someone who DOSN'T know it's "wrong" and CANNOT comprehend it if he was able to.

You idiot.

I mean honestly, the amount of pathetic ignorance in this thread with moronic things like "Oh he KNEW what he was doing" and "even a retard knows rape is wrong".

No, no he dosn't. Thats the problem. Thats where soo many of you ignorant *beep* dumbasses come from when complaining about some murderer or criminal not recieving a harsh punishment (in a justice system designed to rehabilitate and deter, not punish) when he had no idea what he was doing.

reply

No you're the moron aeternus, if Mathew didn't know that raping her was wrong then why the *beep* did the other men have to keep telling him to do it hmmm?? Answer that one! If he didn't know that it was wrong he would have just went right ahead and done it without thinking about it. But he kept saying no he doesn't want to and he can't and he seemed to feel bad for what they did to her so obviously he DID know it was wrong, any idiot can know that when a woman is screaming her head off and running away and bloody and bruised and looks like she is in pain that what they are doing is wrong, deep down they know. His actions showed that he did know it was wrong. He didn't want to do it at first and only did it after he thought he would lose his stupid friends if he didn't give in, so he was selfish because he didn't give a *beep* about her. He totally deserved what she did to him and don't give me this *beep* that he didn't know any better. The fact is he still raped her anyway and he deserves to pay for it.

Also with your theory that Mathew didn't know it was wrong to rape her then you could say that the main guy, Johnny, didn't know it was wrong to rape her either because in his mind and from what he told Jennifer was that she brought it on herself and was asking for it, she wanted it. To him what he did wasn't wrong but was what she wanted, in his mind she was asking for it by showing him her legs and flirting with him. Not saying he's right because he's not, that guy was a piece of *beep* who deserved getting his penis cut off but a lot of people think things aren't wrong in their own mind so that theory doesn't work.

aeternus_proeliator, how do YOU personally know how long it takes for a woman to get over such an attacK?

Although Jenifer thought she killed Matthew, she didn't. Matthew was really Psycho Mantis, he used his Telekinesis to levitate while being hanged. Then used his powers to make the others do stupid things to make the revenge easy. He lived on for about 25 years after pretending to be hanged and was killed by Solid Snake when he helped Liquid try to steal Metal Gear Rex.

Oh, that explains it.

Moving on...

Matthew knew what he was doing, He knew he was raping Jennifer. He was just looking for acceptence from the other pervs who were egging him on. Hes the outcast of the Group. So he thought raping Jennifer would make the guys cut him some slack. Hes not retarded to a point where he has no idea what he's doing. I would never lay a finger on a woman, I like this movie because of its sheer terror and her revenge, But why would Matthew rape her anyway? Who'd want Johnny's Sloppy Seconds?

Piper: Please, somebody help me. The mean demon is dipping me into the water and it's really cold.

reply

On Joe Bob's DVD commentary, he has some interesting things to say about Matthew's death: Narratively, he was the first to be singled out for revenge because he was the "least guilty;" therefore, it is at this juncture in the film that the audience is implored to ask itself the central question of justice. Afterall, art is meant to reveal ourselves to ourselves. If we side with Jennifer, the rest of the film will be "the icing on the cake" (for a lack of a better term). However, if we feel the murder of Matthew is excessive, the rest of the movie will be cast in a much different light. Though I would hardly qualify this movie as high art, it is quite successful in raising issues and provoking the audience to truly question its themes.

reply

that is exactly where I was when I watched this.

that is when I realized this was a Bruce Lee type revenge movie.

reply

He was much more able than you give him credit for. If you have the capacity to feel remorse, and even FAKE a murder than you are able to pick right from wrong.

well a)it is based on a true story so maybe in real life she killed him, b)i havn't seen this movie in a few years so i forget weather or not he was basically forced to do it, c)who ever said that she was without fault? i remember thinkingit was pretty bad that seh killed someone that wasn't mentaly stable, but that just made her character more dynamic. the ''good guy'' isn't always wiht out fault
