Reynolds and Co rip off Canadian stunt

In the late 70s a stuntman by the name of Ken Carter was touring the USA setting records for jumping cars ramp to ramp. In 1975 he got the idea of jumping a rocket powered car over a body of water to the other side.

Construction of a ramp and designing a special car for the jump took a couple years and Carter remained touring on the road doing regular car jumps when he met Hal Needham, Burt Reynolds and others in the Las Vegas area. Carter proceeded to get intoxicated with them and spilled the beans about a plan to jump open water in a rocket powered car.

The "grand finale" of the movie was history. Carter himself never got to jump as the stunt became too hairy, a less experienced stuntman with legal problems (that he was told would go away) if he took the job ended up jumping in his place. The whole thing can be seen on facebook.com/TheMadCanadian
