Ian McKellen confirmed that filming of the latest version of The Hobbit will begin in July 2010. Peter Jackson will direct and I think it will be released in 2011. Auditions now taking place in Los Angeles, New York and England.

Guillermo del Toro dropped out of the project due to the many delays; Peter Jackson took up the director's chair after a search failed to yield another candidate. The Hobbit will be made as two films, tentatively titled The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again. Filming began in New Zealand on March 21, 2011.
