The Wood Elves

Why did they make them look so strange? and so unlike Elrond's elves? Have the animators or producers ever said?

I always thought it was a brave choice to portray the beautiful elves as horrible grey German monsters.

I thought the wood elves were orcs the first time I saw them.

LOL, I know right? They looked like goblins.

Because he's not a hero. He's a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Dark Knight.

They looked like goblins and Gollum looked like a frog! 
