I'm multilingual, but Italian isn't one of my languages (I have a VHS of it). It was difficult for me to follow the movie, but the actors used body language well enough for me to get the gist of the plot. The theme of this movie (May December romances) is used in quite a few euro flicks. I was surprised by the nudity, but it lends to the frankness and reality of the story as some of Katya's nudity was her acting out his fantasies. That's something very rarely seen. If you enjoyed this movie you should see Stolen Children (no nudity, but EXCELLENT acting).

I recently purchased the dvd and wish they would have not made it into english it sounded so funky. Think I'd rather read subtitles on this one. Clementi is one of the best actors in history. Too bad there is so little of him. Also was hoping to see more of their togetherness and the ending pissed me off.

That's rather the point of the story, isn't it? He wants her to be his fantasy 'forbidden fruit': he know he can't have her for real, because of her age and his injuries, which is why he can't respond when she comes on to him. If she were more available his deficiencies would become apparent. The ending is the final straw, when his fantasies evaporate.

Just dreadful- in every respect.

I have seen the original uncut version and the recently released version it was like watching two different movies you can only cut so much out of a movie or you will not get the same story.

Remember, you don't have to be smart if you can pretend to be someone else who is...

The Italian version is a little different, surprisingly it has less nudity. Plot is the same.
I have the 75 min copy and the Italian print, which is 82 min.
The Italian has some added material of the girl watching another couple make love but cuts out the fantasy scene where he picks her up from the water and at the end it cuts from the performer chasing the girl and embracing to the writer finding them.

So which is the the 'uncut' version, if it isn't the Italian? I've seen a set of videocaps that has a lot of nudity (though with some blurring), and it has the fantasy scene you describe, and the text Paul writes at the end of his book is subtitled in Italian, "Ma la natura, che credeva sconfitta, lo uccise." (It's not translated at all in the English dubbed version I've seen.)
