I still prefer the original, but will admit that the remake is my favourite of all the modern remakes that I've seen and is worth watching out of more than just curiosity.
Your hear and see on internet movie sites that how great horror films like The Exorcism, Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre etc etc. I have seen them all. Some are good, some are over ratted, but none will scare and chill you more than this film. I mean the original movie. Its a unique film in a way that you most feel part of the onscreen events & at times kind of feel helpless and some what disturbed.
You should watch the original first. The remake i also worth watching. But the creepy atmosphere of the original wins the battle for me. An absolute great horror film of all time.
Original but the remake is pretty good. The original is filled with feelings of dread and intensity not in the remake but the remake, in my opinion, has the better way for the family to crash. Instead of dodging a rabbit or whatever it was a trap. I dig that. Kind of like how they got people in Motel Hell which, by the way, I hear is being remade. -------------------------------- I did sixty in five minutes once...
Well TCM is my favorite movie ever. Hills is around, eh, 30 if I had to rank them. How did you know that? My tag is a play on something the cook says, is that it? As for your question, it compares a little. Funny thing, I wrote Bob Burns once. He's the set director for this and Chain Saw and The Howling and asked him about how gramma from Chain Saw is in The Howling and he actually wrote back. I got his address from Tim Harden of texaschainsawmassacre.net. I couldn't believe he replied. Really cool. He died though. But to answer your question, both are great. In a way, Hills actually deals with more grotesque subject matter but it isn't presented with as much in your face intensity.

I knew from your posts on the TCM board. and the quote. I think both movies are great. TCM definitely better, but they are both awesome. THHE definitely took alot from TCM though.
Oh yeah. It is great. I have that on a double disk with Deranged which is also based on Ed Gein like Chain Saw is. I haven't seen it in a while. I should pop that in. It is a nasty little flick. And it has Cliff Claven from Cheers in it!

After rewatching both, I definitely prefer the original. But, the remake is the best horror remake I've seen. And, I saw Motel Hell, which is awesome as well.
The Saw: Speaker of truth and defender of the entire Texas Chainsaw original series.
