Greatest title ever

This is a great title, and a funny one. But a more serious title would've worked for this movie, because I was mislead.

The title is in reference to his family basically telling him to look for a hero, and see that there is hope in life. His reply was something like "Where I'm from, a hero ain't nothin but a sandwich". Maybe you should read the book.

"I like Shakespeare, Maya Angelou, and Nikki Giovanni, just to name a few."-Teena Marie

I've never seen the film, but I really enjoyed the book as a teenager--very realistic look at the life of a young black urban teen in the '70's, and how he manages to steer clear of a lot of the temptations constantly around him, backed up by a caring parent.

i agree. it's a great title. but is it an idiomatic expression in some circles? i guess the phrase has never caught on with members of the general public, but it's a powerful expression nonetheless. these days the word "hero" is tossed around by members of the media. (for example, all veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are referred to as "heros," no matter what they may have done.) i'm not criticizing heroism itself, but merely those who are too "free" in their use of the term "hero." it's THOSE people whom i feel like telling........that a hero ain't nothin' but a sandwich.
