When is the song actually played in the movie?

reply

The song is played over the titles and again over the end credits. As it relates the plot, it wouldn't really fit elsewhere in the film.

t might be worth pointing out that at the begining of the movie-haven't gotten to the end yet-it's played in full.In a sense,it's a spoiler, but then again most people going to see the film on first release would have already heard it,and it is a hell of a point song.

reply

It's not much of a spoiler, since the plot related in the lyrics of the song is disposed of in the first 15 minutes or so of the film. The important action then goes forward from the point at which the song ends.

I just wanted to toss out that the song was written by Tom T. Hall. It's been said that he patterned the song after his birthplace of Olive Hill, KY. I'm from a town several miles down the road. I must say, the song and the movie certainly depicted a small "southern'ish" town very accurately...especially for 1978. I've always gotten a kick out of the song. Ya know, seeing a bunch of hoity toity snobs getting taken down a few pegs. Talk about the ultimate under dog. :)
