Where was Laurie when Michael killed Judith?
Being baby-sat somewhere else? What do you think? Or is there some lore somewhere explaining this?

shareDoes it really matter since they're not related? That being said, Michael is older than Laurie anyway so she probably wasn't even born.
shareShe was 2 years old and is his sister.
shareNot in the original movie nor in the current continuity.
shareObviously I'm referring to the continuity where he is her brother.
shareIn that case it's a plot hole. It was never intended for them to be siblings until Carpenter got pressured from NBC after they bought the rights to show it on television. The twist was added as an after thought to fill the time slot and generate hype for a sequel.
shareOK thanks for the info. Has the plot hole ever been attempted to be explained in the lore following the original movie?
shareNot that I'm aware of. My knowledge of a lot of the Halloween lore is pretty fuzzy though so I could be wrong.
shareNo it has not and its been driving me crazy because I hate plot holes
shareI think near the end of Halloween II a brief and hurried explanation by Loomis is offered to explain the Michael/Laurie connection (since Laurie clearly has different parents in the first film).
And no, it doesn't satisfy.
There were no plans for a sequel when Halloween was made. But since it was such a big hit and copycat films started rolling out and cashing in on the slasher genre the creators of Halloween decided on making a sequel themselves. Unfortunately they decided on the gimmick of Laurie being the sister of Michael.
To be fair, in the original Halloween did have a scene where, after Michael's escape, his hospital room is shown disheveled with "sister" written on the walls. So one could argue that they had the connection in mind even then, though I think that scene wasn't included in the film, I can't recall.
Yeah that scene was added to the TV release during the filming of Halloween 2 to create continuity between the two in regards to this new plotline.
shareGood to know, thanks.
And the funny thing is, when I saw that scene I didn't think "oh Laurie is his sister," but rather, "he's still fixated on the sister he murdered." If one is going on the obvious assumption that he is insane, insane enough to randomly murder his sister, then escape the asylum for the sole purpose of returning to his home, then it's not a stretch to think that upon returning home, he becomes fixated on Laurie. NOT because she is his sister, but because she is the first person he sees after returning home and that she happens to be a girl the same age as his sister was when he murdered her.
she could have been in the house sleeping. Judith was old enough to babysit her when the parents went out swinging.
shareYeah that's a possibility. Thanks for your input.
shareThat's what I would always assume. She sleeping in her crib in their parent's room.
Now, wouldn't she hear Judith screaming and wake up crying? Yes
Wouldn't their parents run to check on her immediately after getting home? Probably.
Yet, it's still the only explanation that would fit into the added storyline.
