I Remember when this came out - radio ads were chilling as hell

Too many people here are too harsh with this flick while forgetting it was the lowest budget blockbuster in history of its time and for a long time after.

On top of that, people keep comparing this to other flicks like apples and oranges and completely out of context.

For crying out loud, for budget reasons they painted a William Shatner mask! And missed the palm trees in the background for Illinois along with the other Midwest inconsistencies, but who gives a shit! This was a gem back in 1978.

I remember listening to the radio ads and how scary they were because they were done so well you could imagine Laurie Strode pounding on your own back door.

What stank for me was I was just 14 and too young to get into a Rated R movie at the time. And think, this thing was released on Oct 27, 1978.

I then was able to see it on HBO later and, wow...

I was a little kid when HBO was airing their commercials For Halloween and I vividly remember the scene of Laurie banging on doors too. When they would come on I would run out of the room. Lol

I think the audio scared me more than the visuals.

Back then after it opened you kept hearing, "Have you seen Halloween!!!??? Have you seen Halloween?!?!?"....but those ads on the radio. They were so good. I can still hear the narrator saying the tag line about how it was the night he came home.

And Jamie Lee Curtis' wailing....

You can find the old radio ads on Youtube..

Did the laughter seem forced?

Movie people just love to sit there and laugh at movies. They wear their laughter like badges. “Look at me, I’m an insider- I’m in on the joke and I get what the common, uneducated movie goer doesn’t!”

When really, they’re just falling in line behind one another, laughing where they think they should.
