Not sure if I remember correctly

It's been a long time since I've seen this, but am I recalling correctly that Michael was driving around in a van at some point? I had thought he was institutionalized when he was young and just sat around in a trance until he escaped. Where did he learn to drive? Especially back then there was a good chance it would have been stick shift and that would be tough to just hop in and start driving out of the blue. But even automatic would be pretty hard if you've never driven before.

He escaped in a Smith's Grove station wagon (think that was it was). It was brought up in the movie by one of the doctors that how could Michael get to Haddonfield when he didn't even know how to drive a car. Loomis replies, "maybe someone around here gave him lessons." Not very plausible and a plot hole imo. No one was gonna teach Myers how to drive nor would he show any emotion / effort to want to learn.

Evil doesn't need driving lessons, i mean he gets shot 6 times at the end and gets up and walks away, him being able to drive shouldn't be an issue if you're fine with that ending. He's a force of evil he can do things normal people can't.

Exactly.

Great response. I'm getting tired of people nitpicking about FICTION.

It’s a clumsy part of the story for sure. I don’t know why John Carpenter didn’t just have Smiths Grove be within ten or fifteen miles of Haddonfield instead of 150 so that it was plausible for Michael to make his way there on foot. I guess the scene where he escapes the hospital would be less dramatic but still...

You don't think we had auto transmissions in the late 70s? How old are you? Most cars were auto by that time unless you wanted a muscle car for the girls. (PS - we also had running water and telephones.)

My only idea would be that he had picked up the general idea of driving from television. He obviously was in a constant state of observation even though he appeared to be in a waking coma.

I seriously doubt he knew shit about driving at 6 or that people were trying to give him lessons in the hospital.
