If Laurie escaped out of the window instead of hiding in the closet.

She might have been able to avoid Michael and escape, Laurie opens the balcony doors and hides inside of the closet trapping herself there, Michael doesnt take the bait because he doesnt notice that the doors are left open at all.

Laurie could have easily climbed up to the roof or tried to grab something and land on the yard without getting hurt, then run away and escaped to call the police, Michael would be left inside of the house not knowing where she was and she could escape from him, possibly bringing the police or Loomis to intercept him, Michael would probably not kill or hurt Tommy and Lindsey.

After that she is pretty much home free, Michael gets cornered and shot and captured, no more killing, might have ruined his night, especially with her not being where he could find her anymore.

As a human being, even the *thought* of leaving two underage children trapped in a room defenseless against a homicical maniac is out of the question. Now letting them run down the street to the McKenzie's house, that's different. But no one would abandon children "hoping" Michael wouldn't try to kill them. If he did, a la When a Stranger Calls, their deaths would be as much Laurie's fault as Michael's.

So that scenario would never, ever work. Laurie is far too responsible for that. As it was, the whole thing played out as it was meant to. She couldn't even take the kids with her, one, there was no time, two, again, they'd be in the immediate line of fire. And if she sacrificed herself for the kids, there's no guarantee he wouldn't have killed them too, at least in her mind.

As an audience, we can think Michael wouldn't kill children because it's taboo, but you don't know. That's the trouble with being a psycho killer. Unpredictable. Not sure if they have any moral boundaries.

Closet scene was iconic, built up the fear factor and she was smart enough to use a hanger as a weapon and the knife when he dropped it, and then allowed the kids to escape and find someone to call the police. Can't have scripted it better.

How would there be no movie? Laurie escaping out the window would suddenly erase the events that had happened prior? Annie, Lynda, Bob, Lester, and the poor mechanic would suddenly come back to life? Myers would suddenly be beamed back to Smith's Grove?

Don't call it a comeback. I've been here for years.

If Laurie jumped out the window it would have created a temporal distortion in the space time continuum, resulting in no Halloween 3.
