My controversial opinion..

Or at least I think it is. In that, I suspect a lot of people will disagree with me on this.

My controversial opinion is that Donald Pleasence was more integral to this film than Jamie Lee Curtis.

Does anybody else agree? I liked Jamie Lee, and is obviously a very talented actress, but I found Donald Pleasence to be more irreplaceable. It would've missed him if a different actor had played him. More so than Laurie's character.

Agree? Disagree.

The film made Curtis but she could have been replaced. The loss of Donald would have been harder to make up for in terms of effect. Curtis did a damn good job showing resilience and social awkwardness in one character. She was great. But a similarly talented actress could have produced the same effect. Not many actors could have done what Donald did with such a small role.

I agree. Pleasence carried the franchise. H20 was okay for what it was, but it seriously went downhill and didn't have to mimic Scream. It could've stayed true to itself. Without either of them, Res. and the last 2 films did not do that great.

I can't agree. I think JLC does a great job. Particularly considering the character Laurie and Jamie's portrayal of Laurie is nothing like Curtis in real life.

She really created the role of Laurie, even though you might think that she's a teenage girl playing a teenage girl.

The girl who played Tina in Jaws 2 was considered for the role. I reckon she would have been interchangeable with any young actress of that age.

The sequels made no attempt to develop Laurie or create anything like a distinctive surrogate Laurie. Definitely, Pleasence's contribution to the series as a whole is far and away the most consistently important.

I never liked Jamie Lee Curtis - I never found her attractive any of her movies - I wouldn't have care if Anne Lockhart would had taken the role of Laurie instead...But the Dr. Loomis casting, that was brilliant on Carpenter's part, no else could have played that role in my opinion...Christopher Lee? As we Italian say ''Get the feck out of here''

Not a fan of Jamie Lee Curtis - No disrespect...She did succeed fame & fortune & her place in the industry & took part of one of the greatest horror films Halloween...I respect her for that...

reply

I'm not 100% a JLC fan either. I respect her as a horror actress and thought she was wonderful in Halloween, Halloween II, H20 and Prom Night.

But not Terror Train?

Anyone could've played Laurie, but Loomis was more integral to this film.

I agree. Donald Pleasance made this movie legit. He brought a level of superiority that was missing from let's say Friday the 13th.

I love Curtis and she was great in this but in all honesty there were a great number of actress' that could have played the part just as well. There wasn't exactly a great deal of depth to her character.Pleasence on the other hand was the heart of the franchise. He was the Van Helsing to Myers monster.

reply

Agreed.

It could have starred Raquel Welch and Donald would still make the film.

yumm...Raquel Welch

Not controversial at all. Most of us agree with you. I do. Pleasence was awesome.

RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time. RIP Matt Roberts. You were great.

reply

I don't think that is controversial. Loomis' acting was fantastic. His scenes and acting bring the movie to another level of class.

reply

Definitely, Some. That's why Carpenter wanted someone of his caliber.

Agreed. I wanna personally thank you for getting rid of Michael Myers, Real, if you did indeed have a hand in it.
