HOW THEY RELEASED JASON, FREDDY AND CHUCKY IN ALL REGIONS BLU RAY BOX SETS BUT NOT MYERS ?

ANYONE CAN EXPLAIN THAT ?

Be lucky some American horror films only exist on Region 2...I wish they had create all region free DVD discs instead...

that's what they should do.......REGION FREE FOR ALL...........why they don't do it ?

Maybe its a question of licensing. Criterion started using region coding when they switched to blu-rays. Maybe they are forced by contracts. Scream/Shout Factory is another publisher using region coding...

reply

Yeah, that sucks. There's be multiple dvds from over seas I'd like to get, but they wouldn't play here without a region free player. Bah!

Movie Theater: Young Frankenstein 10/10. RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time.

I used to hack my DVD player into a Region Free DVD player so I can watch my movies that was only available on Region 2 - The DVD player companies from whom I knew there was a way to hack it, they found out about it, they removed the zero from their remotes control & restricted to one region only...It sucks now that my hack free region DVD broke down, now it's back to watching it on my computer or pay a outrages price for a specific DVD player that allows the free region option...

If I would have known the DVD companies were getting wiser with people like me, I would had bought two or three DVD players for back-up...They were cheap too, under $30

Licensing is definitely the issue. If I recall, Halloween had a DVD box set long before the Blu Rays even existed when Resurrection came out, but it was Region 2 and was missing 6, I think. So if they get that all lined up and upgrade it, which should be simple, there you go. There is the Alliance Region free triple pack of Halloween 6-8 on Blu Ray. Had those til I upgraded to the box.

Really, though, it shouldn't be that hard to re-code it and release it overseas since they can easily reverse engineer it to work here.

Time will tell, just have to be patient.

It's a complicated issue due to the fact the films have been produced by different studios and the rights to them are all over the place. The original was an independent film but is licensed by Anchor Bay now, Halloween 2 and 3 are Universal films, 4 and 5 are something else, and 6 on through the remake franchise are all Dimension films. Americans are incredibly lucky they got a box set at all what with the rights beyond so spread out like that.

And home video companies who don't outright own the rights to the franchise only have access to transfers the rights holders give them and the rights holders dictate what region the discs are to be. There's no way around it as these companies only retain the rights to release the movie on home video formats until the contract runs out. They don't own them.
