Donald Pleasance

I think he is the only one who it would be impossible to replace in the original movie and maintain the same level of excellence. JLC would be hard to find an equal of but it could possibly be done? To me, it's not Halloween with out Pleasance as Dr. Loomis.

reply

Agreed. You must not like Malcolm McDowell in the Rob Zombie movies then, huh?

RIP Tony Burton. RIP George Kennedy. RIP Doris Roberts. You were wonderful in ELR.

reply

I like Malcolm McDowell but not the RZ films. Don't Fear the Reaper is A+, though.

reply

Donald was awesome, no question. If anybody could replicate the role of Loomis and maintain the quality of the character, it would be Sir Ben Kingsley (just my opinion). Malcolm McDowell was really good as well (though I'm not a fan of the way they treated the character in the sequel to the remake).

reply

He was terrible in the sequel. I like him in other things though. Generations and Book of Eli for example.

Agreed. No one could have replaced Donald Pleasence for Dr Loomis. He was the masterpiece.

I'd say Richard Attenborough at the time would have made a good Loomis. The role was definitely within his range.

And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all.

Oh, Jurassic Park. He just dies last year, I believe. He was a director too, I think.

X-Men: Apocalypse 8/10. TMNT: Out of the Shadows 9/10. RIP Doris Roberts. You were wonderful in ELR.

reply

A very acclaimed director as it happens........and a fine actor.

He was marvellous as psychopath John Christie in the factual 10 RILLINGTON PLACE.

Never saw it. He directed a movie I enjoy, I think, but I can't remember the name.

Yeah, he was perfect for the role.

reply

I always thought that actor who played Mr. Strickland from Back To The Future & he was also the first cop in the original Amityville Horror opening scene. He could have been a good candidate to replace Pleasance...

reply

Certainly was.

RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time. RIP Matt Roberts. You were great.
