Quinn makes it Worth a Look

I actually saw this movie in the theaters upon its initial release. This thinly disguised retelling of the romance between Jackie Kennedy and Aristotle Onassis was rather cheesy but there is some lovely scenery and the bravura performance by Anthony Quinn does make it worth watching. Quinn is always worth watching and this movie is no exception.

I just want to add that both Quinn & Bisset make this film work by virtue of the way they underplay their roles (considering they are playing hugely famous/infamous characters in an over-the-top milieu). They are both perfectly cast & they deliver. Don't expect DR. ZHIVAGO or LAWRENCE OF ARABIA. If you like films like THE OTHER SIDE OF MIDNIGHT, you'll find this a tasty morsel.

Quinn and Bisset indeed make this film worthwhile. I couldn't imagine caring a bit for their characters with lesser actors in those roles.

"The Other Side of Midnight" is a great point of reference here. Both feature credible performances by their stars, both have an element of sleaze that doesn't seem to taint the headliners, and both are undeniably entertaining while falling a few marks short of excellence. And I gave both 6/10 stars.
