Any unknown-but-good westerns?

Give me some titles.

reply

3:10 to Yuma (the old and the new)
Unforgiven
Hombre
The Shootist
The Searchers
Red River
Rio Grande

These are just a few 5 and 4 star westerns, some well known. May I suggest that you also try perusing through Netflix? Just type in a name like "Unforgiven" and you'll be given other titles recommended by members.

Good luck!

Well every single one of those recommendations by viamber is a pretty well known western and many are considered classics of the genre!

Couple suggestions for relatively unknown but good westerns is Yellow Sky (1948) with Gregory Peck and Day of the Outlaw (1959) with Robert Ryan & Burl Ives. Undoubtedly well-known to western fans but maybe not to others are the fine Budd Boetticher-directed westerns starring Randolph Scott such as Ride Lonesome, Seven Men from Now, Commanche Station and The Tall T. Sam Peckinpah's Ride the High Country with Scott and Joel McCrea is a good one that gets overshadowed by his later much more violent The Wild Bunch. Netflix has all these movies.
