How could anyone not appreciate this movie.

I know it is rough in many spots compared to major blockbuster films about Viet Nam, but dang if it isn't honest and forthright in its telling of the problems/insanity of the war.

I think this film astutely captures America's futile and needless involvement in the Vietnam way. Moreover, Burt Lancaster is splendid in the lead.
