Esme..The Laughing Snake?

It is me or is the snake laughing when the cigarettes with the roll of film is thrown into the fireplace?

Yes, the snake is laughing. One of the many weird but funny touches in this fun movie. The dirty Scrabble game.......Burgess Meredith doing karate. Great stuff...........

The snake actually laughs? I have seen this movie at least 6 or 7 times, and never noticed that. I will have to rewatch this movie, and check it out!

I've always wondered about the snake laughing. The only thing that I can figure out is that snakes have always been associated with the devil and he is laughing at the fact that the evidence that might keep the Pope from being assassinated has just been destroyed. I have to admit that seems strange within the context of this movie.

Anybody else have another interpretation?

I never thought of it that way. Perhaps you are right. On the other hand, maybe it was just the producers of the film showing off their weird senses of humor?

The laughing snake was kinda cute...lol.

I like to think,especially since the film was destroyed, helping no one,that it was the McGuffin of the movie.And yes, the snake was cute & seemed to be laughing.

I have a dog that makes the exact same sound if you pick him up. Like a dry, raspy "Ha ha ha..."
