Which of them could beat the other, one on one?

One on one, we see:

Centipede vs. Toad [DRAW]
-I say draw because the only reason Centipede got taken was because Hybrid interfered. Centipede was getting lots of hits in, but they weren't having any effect. Toad wasn't getting hurt, but he couldn't land a punch on the much faster Centipede. I don't know how this one would have panned out in a strict duel.

Snake vs. Toad [TOAD]
-Snake wasn't having any effect and didn't know the weak spot. and by the end he was taking serious hits. If it hadn't have been for Scorpion's interference, he would have lost.

Scorpion vs. Toad [SCORPION]
-Scorpion knew the weak spot and had the weapon to take it out at a safe distance.

Centipede vs. Lizard [CENTIPEDE]
-Lizard gets a lucky hit in early, but in their subsequent combat Centipede is getting in hit after hit.

Snake vs. Hybrid [SNAKE?]
-Snake, but only because of what the master said about Hybrid being limited. Actually, their duel is inconclusive, with no hits either way.

Snake vs. Scorpion [?]
-Scorpion gets the stinger cheap shot, but Snake gets the hit-to-the-stomach cheap shot. Hard to tell which would win in a clean fight, which they never have.

Hybrid vs. Scoripon [SCORPION]
-After a while, Scorpion gets in a devastating kick.

All in all, I'd say Centipede and Toad are by far the most powerful. In the end, I'd give the edge to Centipede, because while it isn't clear whether Centipede could ever beat Toad, as soon as someone takes out Toad's weak spot, he's done.

Scorpion has a big buildup, but he clearly overrates himself. Most of his damage is done via his weapons. Fighting wise, he only gets one really good hit in, and that's on the mere Hybrid.

Lizard hardly fights one on one at all, but he doesn't seem terribly effective.

Snake is shown to be quite weak compared to the others.

Hybrid is the weakest, but only slightly weaker than Snake.

Lizard vs all

Winner: Lizard

Why: He is not just a lizard...he is MAD DOG.

I don't know who would win, but they'd make one heck of a Basketball team... Hybrid would make a good #6 player also!

Bahahahaha! Awesome idea! Gecko has to be the point guard. Scorpion is basically LeBron, so we've got one of those. Toad and Centipede are the center and the power forward. And Snake is the shooting guard. I don't know what the hybrid guy would be, though. He doesn't look like he'd be a good basketball player, and yet he's probably somehow the best one on the team.

I find this idea a lot more interesting than the original post. I picture them playing against Team USA, using their unique moves to pass the ball back and forth and get a good shot. And of course, their D is outstanding.

Among "Venom Mob" enthusiasts, there was so much controversy as to which style and character was the best or strongest. There really is no mystery.

The movie itself names The Centipede as "Number One". He called himself "Number One, The Boss". What Centipede meant when he said that is that he was the mob leader of the Poison Clan Gang. In the opening scenes, the venoms are lined up.....in order. Centipede is standing first in line. This is because he is the strongest style. In other words, he is kicking everybody else's ass one on one if it came down to it. Why? Because of SPEED.

In order, from greatest to least:

CENTIPEDE
SNAKE
SCORPION
LIZARD
TOAD

You notice the Toad is last. This is because he was the slowest. Once his weakspot was discovered he would lose his iron skin. His fighting skills then would prove to be mediocre and he would have his ass whooped soundly. He would be no match against Centipede, because Centipede could hit him 1000 times while dancing circles around him....until his weakspot was discovered.

Snake is the most popular beloved style, but the 2nd strongest. Snake had a little of the speed of Centipede, but was also unpredictable and deadly. The ability to levitate while leaning or jumping helped alot too. He never would use a sword because he had the fangs of the serpent. Probably the only Venom he could not pierce the skin of with his serpent's fang fist....was Toad. But Toad would eventually be killed by any of the other fighters if they displayed patience and avoided his crushing blows.

Lizard really wasn't that spectacular as a fighting style, even though it was one of the most visually attractive styles that made this movie a legend. Take away the Lizard's power to climb a wall...and it becomes like any other earthly technique.

Also notice how number 1 and number 2 (centipede and snake) joined forces, while number 3 and number 4 joined up. Meanwhile, Scorpion, number 3, the middle man remained independent.

On a fair one vs one fight, TOAD would trump all. You know why? because no one else's attack can hurt the TOAD. Every hit, every blow, every strike, just bounces of Toad. He is pretty much invincible. It's true Toad has a weakspot, however in a one on one fight no one is going to be able to exploit it. He'd just block their efforts. (heck it's a simple matter of covering your ears up with your hands when your hands are invincible shields that nothing can penetrate!)

The only reason his weakspot was exploited in the movie is because Scorpion cheated by stealthily attacking Toad when Toad was busy with Snake. In Toad vs Centipede, its clear that Toad was winning not Centipede as even 100 hands striking Toad did no damage to Toad. In a fair 1 vs 1 between Scorpion and Toad, Toad will never give Scorpion the chance to attack his ears.

I agree 100%!
They knew Toad was the best & was the most threat.
Only by him not realizing another enemy was in the picture was he beaten.
This is why his death was so wrong.

reply

False. The only reason Toad was invincible to others was because no one knew his weak spot. As soon as they knew where it was, anyone could have hit it.

Toad was shown to have the ability to absorb blows (except for at his weak spot), but NOT to block them. Centipede gets in hundreds of his. Snake gets in a bunch. There is no reason to believe that Toad could block the attacks of any of the other, faster Venoms. He can only absorb, not block. He's not fast enough. And he's not fast enough to run away.

Basically, only if someone doesn't know Toad's weak spot is he the most powerful. As soon as his weak spot is discovered, anyone can take him out. he would have to be equally fast as Centipede to be able to block all strikes. Since he isn't, he can't block them, and he's done.

Neither of them could beat the other 1 on 1, that's the point of teacher telling the hybrid to team up. The Toad is the most powerful, but it took the Snake to distract him for the Scorpian to strike, hence 2 on 1. If the others were to face the Toad alone, they would just run away as the Toad would not be able to chase them down.

The other four venoms died because of their character flaws, not by technique, The Centipede was arrogent; The Snake was remorseful; The Scorpion was greedy;, and The Toad was indifferent. Only The Lizard, and The Hybrid had a purpose of righteousness that the teacher relied upon.

reply

except in the toad vs snake fight, it didn't look like snake was able to run away after realizing none of his strikes were working. It looked like snake was cornered and going to lose bad but got saved by the scorpion at the last minute.

Don't know but they need to make more classics like this..I've seen over 50 shaw brother movies..this, crippled avengers and 36th chamber impress me most

To the OP:

Nice breakdown/analysis of the fighters and their techniques (and fun to read too, especially if one has already seen the film.) I'm watching the film again after not seeing for years, and I find it even more interesting then I did the first time around. I liked its dark mysterious/almost film noir mood and look. Just about all the Venoms' films were good anyway, and since this is the one that established them as stars in their own right, that makes it even better.
