Danny Aiello's character(s)

I may have been mistaken but I thought there was a very unrealistic connection between the two scenes in which Danny Aiello appears. In his first scene he appears as one of the two representative henchmen for the man that owes the 20 grand to Keitel's father. He sics the policeman on Keitel. Later we see Aiello in the background talking with Jim Brown at his hangout. As far as I could tell those two groups of "tough guys" were NOT connected, so why was he part of both?

It's the same character. Aiello plays a strong-arm for Riccamonza (Tony Sirico), and the reason for his connection with Dreems (Jim Brown) is two-fold: Not only does it establish that Dreems is a shady guy with ties to the criminal underworld, it serves to illustrate that Jimmy's desire to distance himself from his father's demands on him is futile; everywhere he turns an element of his responsibility to collect from Riccamonza is there. He wants to leave his father's world behind and immerse himself in beauty by pursuing both his music and Carol (Tisa Farrow), but he's trapped. A reminder of his duties to his father is around almost every corner.
