Most of the footage seemed fake or dramatizations
Granted the Morgue scene looked real.. Was the 747 footage real or fake?

Most of the footage was recreated. If we're thinking about the same 747 clip, I think that was authentic. I'm sure Schwartz said in the "Fact or Faked" special that said bit was taken from a news station that had the footage.
Aside from that, some of the execution footage, the morgue sequences and the slaughterhouse footage--I don't remember what was openly revealed as being real.

So the news footage allowed them to film closeups of body parts?

I'm not entirely sure. I may be mixing this up with another sequence, and it has been so long since I saw the "Fact or Faked" thing, but I do remember a mention of them being able to attain stuff from news groups. So if I'm thinking this right, the news already had the footage and Schwartz bought it.

Wrong.
It's a mix of real and recreated, and good percentage of it is real stuff from unbroadcast news footage, documentary footage, industrial films, and so on.
It is NOT mostly recreated by any means.
It's almost entirely fake but I do think the plane crash footage is real.
shareSomeone can correct me on this, but during Fact or Faked, I think the director said in the interview that the footage of the plane crash was real and he obtained it from a local news station for fairly cheap.
It's been maybe eight or more years since I've seen it (time flies for me), and don't remember if that was clarified or not during the clip being shown.

Just watched the interview with David Allan Schwartz and yes, the plane accident footage is real. So it is the car accident footage at the end where the brains are being scooped up and put into a bag.
shareIt was PSA 182, right?
