Soundtrack available?

Does anyone know if the soundtrack was ever released on vinyl (or, heaven forbid, CD), and if so, did it have Paul Williams' or Glen Campbell's version of "Here's Another Fine Mess"? I've been looking for it for years.

I do have "Here's Another Fine Mess" on one of Paul Williams' LPs, but I want Glen Campbell's version also. Despite what previous posters have said, I don't think the song has ever appeared on a Glen Campbell album, but I'd love to be proved wrong.

I was wondering that too, thank you.

Now I'm confused. I bought a DVD of "The End," and when I watched it, there was only the Paul Williams version of "Here's Another Fine Mess." I'm sure that when I first saw this film (about 25 years ago), I heard Glen Campbell's version. Is my memory that bad, or did they switch the versions from Glen Campbell to Paul Williams?

Postscript: It appears to be a switcheroo. Looks like this confusion is addressed on the thread "Who Sang 'Another Fine Mess'?"

I've got a 45 rpm record of Glen Campbell singing "Another Fine Mess" around somewhere in my vinyl collection.

Also, I've got a very early video release of "The End" from 20th Century Fox Video in 1982 with the old sliding-drawer type box they only used for a couple of years and it's Paul Williams singing "Another Fine Mess" over the opening credits and not Glen Campbell.

If you really want to hear Glen Campbell's version of "Another Fine Mess" you could go to Gemm.com and search for it. It's bound to be sold on Gemm.com somewhere.

Thanks so much for the info, CG! I didn't even know this was released as a 45. I have probably 15 or 16 Glen Campbell albums, and I'm always on the lookout for Glen's version of this song in his section or the soundtrack section. There are a few good vinyl stores near me that have singles alphabetized by artist, so I'll check there.

My DVD of "The End," which obviously was a recent release (found it for $2.99 at a used store!), has only Paul Williams singing and in the credits. His version is fine, but I'd love to have a vinyl version of Glen singing that doesn't compete with dialogue or waves.

Thanks again!

Theres a 45rpm version of this song on sale on ebay. Is this the version heard on tv that imitates Paul Williams or is it Glen Campells Southern Nights bonus song???? They do sound different.

I too have been searching for Campbell's version of Another Fine Mess and did not find it until yesterday. He released it on his 1977 album Southern Nights. It's available on CD (if you can find it) on a double record/single CD release of Southern Nights & Basic. Here's the link to the CD on half.com

Good Luck!

That's odd. I have both "Southern Nights" and "Basic" on vinyl, and the song does not appear on either. It must be a CD bonus track, which is strange because they already combined two albums on one CD. Or perhaps the song was originally on the first editions of the LP and was pulled for copyright or royalty reasons.

I noticed the track is listed as "Another Fine Mess" rather than "Here's Another Fine Mess," which is how Paul Williams released it. Are you sure it's the same song?

Regardless, thanks for the information, claimdenied!

I used to record songs off the radio and TV on my tape recorder also. They were really crude recordings (it wasn't direct, so it had a lot of background noise), but they got the job done. In fact, before I had a VCR, I recorded the whole movie "Serial" off HBO on audiotape, and I'd listen to it and remember the images. Oh, those low-tech days of yesteryear!

You were fortunate to have the foresight to tape and preserve those "WKRP" episodes, even though I suspect they all are available on DVD now. Still, there's nothing to take you for a trip down memory lane like those old shows with the local commercials intact. I wish I had the ability to tape all the "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" episodes I watched, because most of those will never be available again.
