Was Sonny Misdiagnosed????

I understand THE END is about a man with a terminal illness. Now in this film sonny is dying of a toxic blood disease. Im starting to wonder if it was a misdiagnosis. He might just be acting sick because he was diagnosed as sick and believed it. I know it sounds stupid but in the end of the film he swims far out into the ocean and back. How is a dying man supposed to do that??? Unless it was a miracle from god??? I think he was healthy all along. He also had the strength to run down the beach at the end of the film. I love this movie by the way. Another fine mess is one of my favorite songs!!!

Sonny might have been a Hypochondriac and that is why he was thinking he was dying. I heard they say his parents were that way.

I don't believe he was misdiagnosed. I think he was going to die of the blood disease. There are illnesses where you feel fine up to close to the end (see Bette Davis' Dark Victory). I have cancer and felt great; I didn't feel good once I started treatment, but think I would have felt great for a long time until the cancer became more serious if I didn't have treatment. He had 6 months to live (give or take) and started his shenanigans early in the diagnosis, so chances are he was feeling fine. Check in again in 5 months and he might be not as well.
