Original rough cut deleted scenes info

Allright. I just finished watching THE DRIVER and DRIVE and i decided to take a look at their IMDb pages.

First of all,note to everyone:
Stop comparing both of the movies. Each of them is good in its own way.

At first,i thought about writing a review of this cool movie, but i decided to do that some other time. So instead,i'm gonna post some info from my files about deleted scenes from THE DRIVER.

Now,i noticed lots of discussion amongst fans of THE DRIVER about 131 minutes cut that is shown in some LA theatre.

While i can't say for sure that there ever was 131 version,i can confirm that there were longer TV version shown on some USA and Europe TV channels. Nothing special, just 3 minutes longer (making the TV cut of the movie 91 minutes long) cut with original opening scene where The Detective and Gold Plainclothesman characters meet for the first time with Red Plainclothesman in some street, and also where the Connection and the Player also meet for the first time in some apartment.

I know that there are some people thinking that there never were any longer cut.

Well,you are wrong.

Some movies are usually about 120-140 minutes long in their rough cut (workprint)versions, that is before some scenes are deleted,or some are trimmed...but saying that there never was longer cut of THE DRIVER,well, that just shows how little you know.

I have seen extended cuts of some other Walter Hills movies, for example: longer TV cuts of 48 HRS (Ganz and Billy talking inside Billy's truck after prison escape, longer dialogue scenes between Reggie and Jack during the driving scenes...) or THE WARRIORS (some additional characters development scenes),so i know for sure that if these movies were originally longer, then who says that THE DRIVER wasn't longer than 87 minutes? I mean, just look at the movie. I know that some parts may seem strange and choppy edited for todays viewers, but that was director's style and it was his decision to make such a movie. Then again, some parts are clearly cut down, and based on rumors, many gratuitous nudity scenes were unfortunatly deleted :( :)

While i'm not saying that original cut was 131 minutes long,i can say for sure that maybe it was about 100,maybe closer to 110 minutes long, but i must say, this is just my own personal opinion and you don't have to take it as possible answer on some of the problems regarding original cut.

Anyways, here are some info for all of you interested in this awesome movie:
(Note: I already mentioned original opening once in this post,so i'm not gonna include it in following list)

Trailer shows several cut scenes:

Connection kissing Driver - This was probaly part of the scene where both of them are talking about how to handle the problem with the money. In 87 minutes version, you can see Isabelle Adjani's character slowly moving towards Ryan O'Neal in that scene, but then it cuts to other scene right before she kisses him.

Longer conversation between Detective and Driver in Driver's motel room - In this extended cut Detective is telling to the Driver: "You get out of my town, because if you go on one more job,and i'm gonna nail you." Driver's response is kind of hard to understand, but i'm think that he's saying something like "You might be getting to me" or "You might be getting to be" ?

Longer cut of Driver and Teeth argument outside Driver's place - This extended scene shows Driver telling the Teeth "How you gonna get down stairs". This small part takes place right before Driver punches the Teeth first time, sending him on the floor.

Alternate angle for Driver's "Sounds like you got a problem" line - While in the movie we don't see Driver saying that line, trailer shows his face while he is saying it.

Deleted dialogue scene- There is small part of the trailer that shows Detective talking with Red Plainclothesman and some woman, probaly bartender named Split which is in novelization, but in the movie she is only seen once in the scene where Gold Plainclothesman hits Glasses (she is the one that stands behind and watches entire scene). It's hard to tell what is Detective saying in this deleted scene. It sounds like "riding on the night, and we got the winning right on first" ?

There are some photos that are showing some deleted scenes:

Detective talking with some blonde girl while Red and Gold are standing behind her. This girl is possibly stripper called Seventeen, character that is in novelization of the movie, but she is not in 87 minutes cut. This role could is probaly the one that Rainbeux Cheryl Smith (or some other actress) played.

Driver plays pool in some bar. Based on novelization,in this scene the Kid,guy who later drives Teeth in his Firebird during the final chase is trying to talk with the Driver, but he tells him to go away.

No,but then again,it only has one extra scene in the beggining and you can see that scene as extra feature in new edition of the movie.

I had a VHS copy of the Driver that stated on the sleeve that it was 131 minutes in length. It was an error, when the tape is actually 1 hr 31 mins long.

I have the DVD, and it's 89 min. That's only a few minutes difference.

I watched the movie at least 20 times and the VHS and DVD versions are the same.

As far as I know, there is not a 131 minute version.

Here is a link to an old thread I started on this subject.
