Ratings Confusion: PG or R?

Does anyone know what the true rating of The Driver is?

I have the DVD and it says that the rating is PG. The IMDB page for it says that the rating is R. In 1979, when The Driver first played on HBO, it also stated that it was rated R. I also see that Amazon.com states that it's rated R, but for the Blu-Ray disc, it has PG.

The DVD says that it's 89 minutes long, while the VHS says that it's 91 minutes long. The DVD says it's rated PG, but on the film's respective page and on a few others, such as Amazon, it's rated R.

What gives? What is THE true rating for this film?

Any answers are appreciated. Thanks very much.

Pretty sure the PG on the DVD is a misprint. It happens. My local Giant Tiger has copies of The Rookie with a PG rating on the back, and I'm like, "Uh, NO!" Lol. This would probably be a 14A here in Canada, but in the States, especially around that time, it'd definitely be rated R because it's a bit too rough to be PG (although there were some PG-rated films that were pretty rough, too...).

There was similar confusion with Speed '94. Several newer prints of the DVD have a Canadian PG rating but the US R rating remains. That's pretty rare for films from the 90's-onward, and most likely a mass misprint, since the lowest Canadian rating an R-rated film usually receives is a 14A, so the PG is a little weird.

Reminds me, also, of Lone Wolf McQuade. It's got a PG in the States (SOMEHOW!) but over in Canada it got THE highest rating for movies (an actual R, above an 18A).

Quite confusing, these things.

The funny thing is that it does have an R rating, but it is a very tame R.
