New Dr. Strange film

I have been reading in other message boards that there is indeed a new and High Budget Film based on Dr. Strange in the works. Does anyone have any information on this?

reply

I don't

if they make a remake Dr. strange would have to be played by Gary Oldman since he looks like dr. strange in the comics(nowadays the comics are called Strange)

David Goyer did write a screenplay for the movie back in 2001, but those plans fell through. Marvel hasn't made any firm plans to produce a new movie, but it's on their long-range plans for the next three year period. (We all know how those plans go.) Goyer claims that if he is chosen to do the movie, he'll trash the old screenplay and start from scratch. (Gee, I hope so. I wasn't terribly impressed with the 2001 screenplay.) However, with his recent success with Batman Begins, perhaps he'll have a shot at it.

Depp would make an excellent Strange. Knightkey and Stewart would work as well. I think that Gary Oldman (mentioned eleswhere as a possible Dr. Strange) would be great as Mordo and B.D. Wong (Law And Order) would work well as Wong although the character would be tough to write for given the slightly stereotypical nature of that character as portrayed in the comic. Make-up and special effects leave the door kind of wide open for any good character actor as Dormammu.

Couldn't disagree more with Oldman or Johnny Depp as Strange...how about Tom Selleck? Or Ewan McGregor? Peter Gallagher? Okay, so much for ol' Stevie-bee!

Oldman would be GREAT as the Ancient One, and since he's such a danged talented actor, he could probably pull it off! I like Henry Silva for Wong...if not him, then Jet Li. Charlize Theron for Clea; Chaz Palmentieri or Rip Torn for Mordo; Joan Allen, (the woman who should have played Sue Storm in "the Fantastic Four",) for Morgan Blessing. Andreas Katsouris or Jamie Farr as Nightmare.

How about Dan O'Bannon for the screenplay and somebody like Ridley Scott or Peter Yates for director?

David Goyer once mentioned that he had written a Doctor Strange screenplay that would include the origin, but then the Shadow came out, with a similar origin (brash, selfish man becomes reformed by Eastern mystic).

I hear there is a Dr. Strange live action movie on the slate for Marvel to make on their own. But while your waiting for that, there will be an animated Dr. Strange movie out by the same people that did the Ultimate Avengers in the near future.

Lance Holt (www.lancejholt.com) reported that he had read for the role of Dr. Strange in 2005 for a DVD movie; he apparently did not get the role. I've not seen anything official from Marvel that indicates the project is still in the pipeline, however.

Their were plans a few years back, but they fell through. Right now their's work on an animated film that will be released straight to video from the same people who brought us the Ultimate Avengers films.

You need a relatively young Dr. Strange to hold any appeal to the main audience, which is 15 to 25 year old males. You can't have Selleck, who is nearing 60. You need someone relatively young, maybe Cole Hauser or Aaron Eckhart.

There are rumors for a film in 2015 or 2016. Who would be a good casting choice for Dr. Strange? Luke Evans.

Now it's a reality.
