Flaws with the Media Blasters DVD???

I watched this movie for the first time in 20 years tonight on DVD from Media Blasters/Shreik Show and I was wondering if anyone out there has some answers about some scenes in the movie. The film looked good on DVD for the most part, but in sequences with Devil Dog taking on it's other demonic form, the picture changed, like it was taken from a different, lesser source. It looked like taped VHS from 15 years ago. It wasn't just scenes with the Devil Dog, it was the whole sequence when the dog took on it's other form, including characters, setting, etc. What's the story on that one?

I don't have the dvd, I have a vhs tape. Are there any special features on the disc?

reply

I noticed that too, looks like the scenes came off a vhs or an old print of the movie I guess.

I just think it was different film stock because of the bluescreen used to make the dog look huge. The devil dog looked creepy but it almost looks transparent in some shots. Plus they shoulda slowed down the footage a little to make it seem as if it was huge.

Yeah, I noticed it too. I watched part of it yesterday then the rest today and realized that's what it was. At first it kind of bothered me then I realized what I was watching.

Media-Blasters are great for the fact they put out a lot of OOP cult classics and 99% of the time put them out uncut.

But their DVD quality is often weak from average transfers to framing it wrong and glitches on the DVDs

I hate Media Blasters/Shriek Show. I make sure to buy the import versions of whatever they release. You suck, Media Blasters/Shriek Show. There, I'm done.

Awesome picture quality for a 1978 TVM from a no name company plus a bonus disc(!). According to the director they had no money for special effects which might explain the poor quality of those scenes. It's also the reason he hated this movie.

The VFX scenes with the dogs were edited on VHS. This was when editing with VHS was a quicker solution instead of film. So, there's only about a minute of rough looking footage because of the source material. The Blu-ray is great, but, I hate Media Blasters with a damn passion.
