Am I the only one who enjoyed the first part better than the second?

I loved the Pennsylvania scenes. The second half was still great but I'd like to see a whole movie like the first half. Oh and I've been to the Western Pennsylvania area tons of times, my dad grew up there so I visit family and whatnot. I can tell you nobody talked with a Western Pennsylvania accent in this. Even worse is that movie Promised Land with Matt Damon. That takes place in Avonmore where dad grew up. Nobody in the movie was accurate at all and the bars they went in had not a single Steeler sign up. Yeah, trust me that isn't accurate in the least.

No. I also enjoyed the scenes before Michael, Steven and Nick head off to Vietnam. Many, many people have criticised the opening hour of the film saying it's tedious, boring etc- but they don't understand that it's a document of the bond that holds the friends together before their departure. The dancing at the wedding shows the fantastic strength within their community and contrasts well with the later brutal sequences in Vietnam showing the inhumanity of war(on both sides). This part of the film is a work of art in itself- regardless of all the action in the second half.

Will somebody get this big walking carpet out of my way?!

The first half of the movie is my favorite part....everything pre-Vietnam.....

Yes. I rarely watch the second half --- too painful. I have a Russian/Ukrainian background, so I loved the church and wedding reception scenes. Loved the shot of the old ladies carrying the wedding cake in. My grandmother looked just like them!

So did mine! :)
